Openings with bit and miss grating would be provided under that a free circulation of air might be obtained - Independently of this windows and if necessary openings might be provided in the walls and Ceiling also.
The Sinks Latrines and Lavatories was to be fitted up with all the appliances most approved of in the London Hospitals In the absence of more precise information with respect to the means of drainage provided at Hong Kong we are unable to make any definite proposal but in the execution of the Work the greatest attention must be paid to the thorough ventilation of the drains before they are brought into contact with the Hospital and, beyond all drain or soil pipes both in and outside the Hospital itself. 11.1, would be provided to convey provisions from the Kitchen to each floor.
The plan shows that it is proposed to attach a Comptoir Washing Establishment there is also a Dead House and Post Mortem Room with Sanitary annex and other offices.
So far as the plans are prepared at present the Ventilation is proposed to be left to depend upon the use of the windows and the openings beneath the beds but if artificial means of ventilation were to be desirable there would be no difficulty in supplying push and trunk air as wished for in the Wards and exhausting the Ward air by artificial means independently of the windows but such a system entails more expense in the first instance and requires Skilled labor to work satisfactorily.
It is thought that at Hong Kong the Climate will probably be such to render unnecessary the artificial Means.
It is proposed that such warmth as may be necessary should be provided for by coils or a system of hot water pipes arranged.
